Buy With ABA
Our weekly auctions are held almost every Saturday and Sunday in several locations throughout the Northeast, so those looking to buy at auction need not travel very far to come see us – we’ll come to you. From Boston, MA to Buffalo, NY to Philadelphia, PA – with regular monthly auctions in Fairfield County, Westchester County, and Long Island. ABA is dedicated to serving the needs of our valued clients wherever you may be. If you are new to ABA – or auctions in general – take this opportunity to review some basic information, but don’t worry, we pride ourselves on our auctions being informative, relaxed, and fun.
How It Works
Our auctions are free to enter. We never charge a fee to look around, ask questions, or register to bid; so feel free to check us out. If you are intending to bid, you must register on the day of the auction by agreeing to a standard contract and a numbered paddle will be assigned to you for that weekend.
Our auctions are by request; so only the items requested during the preview period (usually 1 hour prior to the auction) will be brought to the auction block. You are under no obligation to bid, but this way you’ll see the item come to the auction block. This way, since each auction features approximately 5,000 individual lots to choose from, nobody has to sit through hundreds of items no bidder has interest in before getting to that one that would look perfect in your home.
Once the auction begins, the auctioneer will announce each selected item in random order as it is physically brought to the front. To place a bid, simply raise your hand or your paddle and the auctioneer will note your bid. If you win that item, the auctioneer will call it sold, announce the hammer price and your paddle number. That’s it!
You might want to stop by and watch your first time. Maybe ask a few questions of us or other bidders. Please, feel free. At ABA we don’t talk fast or move hastily. We want you to know exactly what is going on at all times.
Though, be warned, auctions can be addicting.
Ways to Buy
Our auction items typically sell in 1 of 5 ways-
Standard Auction Item: The great majority of our auction items are this type. They are requested during one of our weekly auction preview periods and requires two bids or more to go to sale. While there is no set minimum, a reasonable offer must be made.
Absolute Auction Item: An absolute item requires two bids or more to go to sale, but absolutely no reason is required. Bring just $5 or $50 or $100; you can always find something to practically steal.
Reserve Auction Item: This item has a reserve (a price below which the item cannot sell) of which you will be notified immediately. A single bid at the reserve price is all that is needed for item to sell.
Purchase Now Option: For those who can’t wait until the next auction, select items are available for immediate purchase. Ask for details.
Or Best Offer (OBO) Option: A silent auction-style option. Ask for details.
Online Bidding & Buying
ABA now offers multiple online stores and auctions…with more coming soon! Check out our ever-growing online presence here.
ABA carefully inspects each of our lots and stands behind everything we sell 100%. Any item that sells for more than $1,000 will automatically receive an ABA Insurance Evaluation Certificate in the mail within 4 to 6 weeks.
Telephone & Absentee Bidding
Since most of our items are available for viewing all week at our warehouse in Orange, CT, clients unable to attend the auction in person may still participate at the auction by bidding live on the telephone or by leaving a sealed bid.
Please read the Conditions of Sale.
